WHEAT FLOUR LADDU @ GODHUMAI LADDU - EASY SWEET RECIPE FOR DEEPAVALI

It is Deepavali in a few days' time and so for our yearly sweet and snack marathon. This time, I have an easy sweet recipe using very basic kitchen ingredients that can be added to your repertoire. Lets get started.

Preparation time: 2 min
Cooking time: 10 min
Cuisine: Indian
Category: Sweet/ Snack
Difficulty level: Easy
Spice level: Sweet
Yields: 30- 35 small laddus
Source: MIL
INGREDIENTS
  • 1 cup Wheat Flour
  • 1 cup pounded Jaggery
  • 10 Almonds chopped
  • 10 Cashew nuts chopped
  • 1 tbsp milk powder
  • 1/2 tsp Cardamom powder
  • 3 tsp ghee
METHOD
  • Line a tray with butter paper and set aside.
  • Roast chopped almonds and cashew nuts in 1 tsp ghee and set aside.
  • Roast the wheat flour in the same Kadai for 2-3 min until a pleasant aroma emanates. Transfer to a plate.
  • Add milk powder, cardamom powder and toasted nuts on top of wheat flour. Set this aside.
  • Rinse the kadai and add pounded jaggery. Add water just enough to submerge jaggery.
  • Cook until mixture thickens to reach single string stage.
  • Turn the heat off and transfer the kadai to a cool burner immediately.
  • Fold in the Wheat flour+ Milk powder+ nuts and cardamom into jaggery mix and swiftly mix with a ladle to incorporate well without any lumps. Add remaining ghee and mix once again.
  • Spread out to dissipate heat.
  • Grease your palm with few drops of ghee and pinch out small portions and roll out into smooth roundels without any cracks when the mixture is still hot. Dip your palm in cold water to make this step easy.
  • Wheat flour tends to harden as it cools. So, you have to quickly finish this step. Line up all the rolled laddus on the butter sheet.
  • When it cools transfer into airtight containers or pack them up in ornamental sweet boxes as shown in the picture above.
  • Gift it to your friends and relatives and make this Deepavali special.
